Virginia currently has one dog of her own (Artemis) and she shares in the care of her boyfriend’s dog Toby. Her previous content/pets include the most wonderful cat in the world Buffy. (I was three when I named her, ok? And before you even ask NO it has nothing to do with Buffy the vampire slayer. She was named long before either the movie or the TV show were in existance.) She also had the pleasure of growing up with two wonderful white German Sheperds named Blitz and Krieger. (We had just come back from Germany at the time that we got them and since we knew the meanings of both words individually (blitz means lightening and krieger means warior) we didn’t give much thought to the WWII implications.) At any rate, Buffy, Blitz and Krieger are no longer with us but they are lovingly remembered here on this page along with pictures of Virginia’s current content/pets.
Artemis is a mutt. She was adopted from the Sterling Animal Shelter in MA. She is a Chow mix, however, what she is mixed with is anyones guess. Virginia’s best guess, based on her size appearance and temperment, is that she is Chow mixed with Shiba Inu and Finnish Spitz. Whatever she is, she’s beatiful. The black tongue and red coloring are what tip her off as being part chow. Her crazy fluffiness and her loving and playful temperment are what suggest she is mixed with the other two breeds. Some people say she looks like a fox, other people say she looks like a lion. I think think she looks like an Artemis. Artemis is named for both the greek godess of the hunt as well as the assasin Artemis Entreri from the R.A. Salvatore books.
Toby is a pure blood beagle, although he is the quietest beagle known to beaglekind. He is a loving, albeit stubborn, dog that Jim purchased from a farm in North Carolina. Like all beagles, Toby likes to follow his nose above all else and thus does not come when called or pay attention to anything when his nose is engaged. Unlike other beagles, however, Toby NEVER howls. He occasionally whines but only when he really has to go outside or when he’s very hungry. Toby was supposed to be named for the beagle in the fox and the hound but Jim didn’t realize that the beagle’s name is Copper and the Fox’s name is Todd and not Toby.
