Virginia McClain was born in Washington, DC. After that, things get a little crazy but here’s the short version: Maryland, Arizona, Germany, Virginia, Colorado, Ohio, Spain, DC again (where she earned her BA from Georgetown University), and Massachusetts.
Currently Virginia’s day job is teaching Spanish at a small boarding school in Massachusetts. In her free time she engages in many activities, most of them out of doors. Rock climbing is her top priority for the outdoors, followed by backpacking, hiking, canoeing, kayaking, and camping in general. She also practices martial arts whenever possible. When the weather prevents her from engaging in any of these activities she sits down with pen and paper (or occasionally just her laptop) and writes.
While interested in writing in general and not any one genre in particular Virginia is a huge fan of fantasy, science fiction and adventure. Nonfiction humor is another favorite of hers and while she enjoys a good mystery every now and then she’s not very good at writing them.
Virginia currently has one dog named Artemis (named both for the greek goddess and for the R.A. Salvatore character) and she is the adopted dog mom of Toby the Wonder Beagle. (As in “we wonder why he sleeps so much.”) She loves animals of all kinds but wolves and hedgehogs happen to be her favorites. Fear not though, she is also a cat lover and she had a feline best friend for 15 years. To learn more about her pets visit the Pets page.
